This week we’re talking to Team Alberta Wheelchair Basketball athlete Jayna Doll! Jayna was apart of the 2019 wheelchair basketball team that won gold at the Canada Winter Games.
How long have you been playing wheelchair basketball?
I have been playing wheelchair basketball for 9 years and was introduced to the sport through my older sister who has spina bifida.
What is your favourite sports memory?
My favourite basketball memory would be the 2019 Canada Winter Games gold medal match; after the final buzzer, time seemed to stop as I looked to my teammates for the reality to sink in that we had won.
What do adaptive sports mean to you?
I wouldn’t be the same without this sport. The community is as inclusive as a family and allowed me to experience what it’s like to be in a chair.
What would you say to someone who is looking to get into wheelchair sports but is nervous to try?
To anyone that is too nervous to try wheelchair sports, you never know the opportunity you might miss out on. I’ve been coast to coast in my home country playing a sport I love and I would never regret it!
