Giving Tuesday – A Global Day of Giving

A message from WSA’s Executive Director and President

Jen Sales – Executive Director

“Today is #GivingTuesday, a global day of gratitude and giving back. Please join us and give – whether it’s your time, a donation, or the power of your voice in the community – to support the causes you care about.

Our high-performance program is dedicated to developing our Team Alberta athletes, coaches, and officials. We have 5 sports that we support: Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby, Wheelchair Tennis, Para Hockey, and Para Athletics. We offer development camps, coach education, and officials training. We also host competitions and support our teams by paying for travel to competitions. Many of our athletes are on a fixed income through Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) program and do not have the finances to cover the cost of camps, flights, hotels, facility fees, registration fees, etc. We support our athletes financially, so they are able to continue participating and competing in their sport. The generous support from our donors helps to send our athletes to major competitions to help them develop as athletes and put Alberta on the podium. So today, I’m asking for you to donate to Wheelchair Sports Alberta so we can continue to assist our athletes, coaches, and officials reach their goals and bring home gold medals!

Thank you for your support”

Andy Wigston – President

“Wheelchair Sports Alberta’s mission statement is ‘To facilitate sporting opportunities for Albertan’s
living with physical impairments and/or wheelchair athletes to develop and compete at all levels from
club to national’. To this end we do everything in our power to make this happen, but this takes funding
and so, we rely on the grant options available and the generous donations from people who share our
passion for “sports for everyone”. When I first experienced these athletes playing the sports they love
and their desire to compete and succeed I knew that I had to be a part of this!

Please help us help them continue to play.”
