Carrying Zach’s Memory, Team Alberta Takes on Para Hockey Canadian Championships

The 2023 Canadian Para Hockey Championships began today, with the tournament set to take place from May 18-21. For Team Alberta, this year’s championship holds a special significance, as it will be their first without one of their core players, Zach Savage, who we lost last summer. As the team prepares for the tournament, they are carrying Zach’s memory with them and are determined to make him proud.

To get ready for the championships, the team held a final intense 2-day, 4-ice time camp on May 13-14. Head coach Kevin Ushko has been working tirelessly to prepare his players for the upcoming tournament. “We’ve been working hard to get the team ready for this competition,” he said. “We have a lot of new players this year, and we’ve been working to integrate them into the team and our new vision for the future.”

Despite the challenges Team Alberta has faced, Ushko remains optimistic about their chances. “We have a great group of players who are excited to compete in their first tournament,” he said. “We’ve been slowly gelling as a team, and I think we’re ready to take on Quebec and Ontario.”

As the championships approach, we encourage everyone to show their support for para hockey and the incredible athletes who will be competing.
