Canada Winter Games – Basketball Tryouts

Team Alberta will be holding an Open Invitation training camp to all Alberta athletes that are interested in trying out for the Alberta Canada Winter Games team in February 2019.

Details below:

Dates: Saturday, June 23rd

Court time 1pm – 4pm / 5pm – 7pm

Sunday, June 24th

Court time 9am – 12pm

Location:  Edmonton Saville Centre (11610-65 Avenuehttp://www.savillecentre.ca/ located at the South University of Alberta Campus

Athletes are to bring the following to training camp:

– Sport Wheelchair

– Spare equipment that you might need

– Water Bottle

– Snacks (A supper break will be included and their are nutritious restaurants on site)

– A reversible jersey with two colors

– Alberta Medical Form

There is no Fee for this camp however the attached Alberta Medical Form must be filled out and either sent into me ahead of time or on the day of camp.  This form will be used throughout the year for training and competition.  The form only needs to be filled out if you have not filled out the form before or your medical situation has changed in the last 6 months and you are on some new medications or updated injury information.

Athletes traveling from out of town as long as you are travelling in a group and gas receipts are submitted you will be reimbursed.  Athletes coming from a location where no other athletes are located your gas will be reimbursed.

The host hotel for the camp will be Holiday Inn Express 4485 Gateway Blvd https://www.ihg.com/holidayinn/hotels/us/en/edmonton/yegem/hoteldetail?cm_mmc=GoogleMaps-_-HI-_-CA-_-YEGEM.  Rooms fees are paid for and you will just need to place a credit card for incidental charges.

Athletes that are in close proximity to Edmonton including Calgary athletes hotel rooms will be covered for the Saturday night stay.  Athletes from Grand Prairie and farther South of Calgary a Friday arrival and hotel room will be covered.

Wheelchair Rugby Canada Announces Tokyo 2020 Coaching Team

Congratulations to Patrick Côté who has been hired as the new head coach of the Canadian wheelchair rugby national team, while David Willsie will be joining him as an assistant coach.

Also, joining these two coaches will be Alberta athletes Denolm & Brandon, who will be traveling to Richmond, BC for the National Team Selection Camp from March 4-9th.

Canada Cup wheelchair rugby: Canucks finish fourth after losing to U.S.

A disappointing week for Canada ended with a 56-53 loss against the United States on Sunday at the 2016 Canada Cup international wheelchair rugby tournament.

The loss left Canada in fourth place with a 3-3 record. It’s the first time the top-ranked Canadians have failed to win a medal in the 12-year history of the Canada Cup tournament.

The second-ranked U.S. finished 6-0 to win the gold. Australia (5-1) claimed silver while Japan (4-2) was third.

Canada struggled to maintain intensity against the aggressive Americans. The Canadians were quickly down by two and finished the half trailing 31-27.
